Club Med Cherating is currently closed for an exciting renovation and transformation, with the resort expected to partially reopen in December 2027 and bookings expected to open from March 2027. More updates will be shared as the renovation progresses and further details become available.
Wondering what made Club Med Cherating special, or planning ahead for its return?
These 33 questions bring together our pre-renovation experience and the practical details travellers often ask about. The resort has been closed since 10 October 2026. Facilities, menus, room descriptions, prices and schedules below describe the former resort, not confirmed reopening arrangements. The expected dates above remain subject to change; see the official closure notice and check the details of any future offer before booking.
Tucked between a thick stretch of jungle and a peaceful, wave-kissed beach, Club Med Cherating was more than a holiday resort for us. It felt like a retreat. A breather. No traffic noise, no to-do lists buzzing in your head. Just sea air, monkeys in the trees, and the kind of calm that slowly replaces your usual “go-go-go” mode.
For us, the appeal was the balance: nature on the doorstep, air-conditioned rooms, a cocktail and a generous buffet. It was comfortable, full of charm, and easy to settle into. Our photos and examples below capture that earlier experience.

What’s the Best Way to Get to Club Med Cherating?
The journey depended on your travel style. These are the routes used before closure, useful for orientation rather than a confirmed future transport plan.
By Bus
The earlier route was an express bus from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan in Kuala Lumpur to Chukai, followed by a taxi or e-hailing ride. Our guide allowed roughly 4–5 hours for the bus and another 15–20 minutes by road; actual services, connections and traffic need checking.
By Car
Driving was the most popular option for many local guests. Journey time depended on where you started in Kuala Lumpur, traffic and stops. The former resort had free open-air parking, and vehicle details were requested before arrival.
By Flight
Kuantan Airport was the nearest usual flight gateway in this guide, with the road transfer estimated at about 55 minutes. Check the current flight schedule before building an itinerary. The old shared-transfer quote of RM115 per person one-way is retained as historical reference only, not a current price or service offer.
What is the minimum age to check-in at Club Med Cherating?
For a future stay, confirm the minimum age for the lead guest and any accompanying-adult requirements before booking. These are separate from the age bands used for children’s clubs and room occupancy.
What Time Is Check-In and Check-Out at Club Med Cherating?
Before the renovation closure, the published arrival window began at 3pm and room allocation could run through to 8pm. Arriving early did not guarantee that a room would be ready. Future check-in arrangements will need to be confirmed with the booking.
Our earlier guide listed early-arrival charges of RM180 for adults, RM140 for teens and RM110 for children, including lunch and resort access before normal check-in. These are historical reference prices, not a current offer: early access is unavailable during the closure, and reopening rates have not been confirmed here.
Eligible Great Members could receive early-access benefits under the applicable programme terms. Do not assume that this guarantees early room availability; any benefit for a future stay depends on status, the resort and the terms in force for that booking.
The pre-renovation arrangements were room checkout by 10am and departure from the resort by 3pm, with lunch before leaving. Keep these as a reference only until the reopening arrangements are confirmed.
Can I Explore Club Med Cherating if I Arrive Early but Haven’t Checked In Yet?
No resort visits or early-arrival access are available during the closure. Before renovation, access was controlled for guest safety and privacy; it was not somewhere visitors could simply walk in and explore.
Once stays resume, check the access conditions attached to your reservation. Resort access, included meals and the time your room becomes available are separate details worth confirming before planning your journey.
What payment methods are accepted at Club Med Cherating?
Before closure, guests could settle bills in Malaysian Ringgit or by major credit card. Confirm the payment methods accepted for a future stay rather than relying on the former arrangements.
The former check-in process included a security deposit, with a digital wristband used as a room key and for purchases charged to the guest account.
That made boutique purchases and chargeable food or drinks convenient: guests could use the wristband rather than carry a wallet around the resort.
The reopening payment and deposit arrangements may differ. Your booking documents and the resort’s arrival information should be the reference when travel resumes.
When’s the Best Time to Visit Club Med Cherating?
Cherating previously operated throughout the year, but it is not open during the current renovation closure. For a future beach holiday, June to August has often been a popular period; rain is still possible in any month, so no travel date guarantees sunshine.
Seasonal turtle conservation experiences were a memorable part of the destination’s appeal. Wildlife sightings and any future activities depend on the season, conditions and the programme available at the time.
School holidays and other popular travel periods can affect prices and availability. Compare your actual dates once reopening stays are offered rather than assuming a fixed low or high season rate.
The earlier advice that the resort “runs as normal” during monsoon no longer applies while it is closed. Historically, wet weather could affect outdoor and sea activities even when the resort was operating. For future plans, allow flexibility for weather and use the confirmed reopening dates and activity programme—not the old schedule.
How Much Is the Club Med Membership?
If you’re booking from Malaysia, here’s the good news. Club Med membership is already included in your holiday package. No hidden fees. No extra steps. Just book your trip and you’re all set.
In some other countries (like the US), guests might have to pay a separate annual membership fee, but that’s not something you need to worry about here.
Even better, once you’ve booked, you’ll be automatically enrolled in Club Med’s Great Members loyalty programme. It’s a simple system that rewards you the more you travel. Think points, perks, and member-only benefits that build up with each trip. Nothing complicated. Just nice extras for being a repeat guest.
What is the Club Med All-Inclusive Day Pass?
Cherating day passes are unavailable while the resort is closed. Before renovation, they offered a way to enjoy the resort without staying overnight.
The former passes combined selected land and water sports, nature activities and time around the pool or beach. Activities depended on weather, age requirements and the daily programme.
Meals, snacks and standard drinks were included during the relevant pass hours. The table below records the old options and prices only; it is not a current price list or a promise that the same passes will return.
| Pass | Time | Adult (18+ Years) | Teen (12-17 Years) | Child (4-11 Years) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day Pass | 10:00-18:00 | MYR295 | MYR230 | MYR170 |
| Night Pass | 18:00-00:00 | MYR380 | MYR309 | MYR225 |
| Full Day Pass | 10:00-00:00 | MYR500 | MYR400 | MYR295 |
For the current closure position and historical pass details, see our Cherating day-pass guide. We can help you consider an operating alternative, but cannot offer a Cherating day visit during the closure.
How Much Does It Cost to Stay at Club Med Cherating?
Club Med pricing works a little differently than a regular hotel. It’s charged per person, not per room. And the rates aren’t fixed. They change based on a few things: your travel dates, how long you’re staying, how many people you’re booking for, and how much availability is left at a certain price tier.
Earlier booking can offer a wider choice of rooms and price tiers, but it does not guarantee the lowest eventual price. Compare the total package and its conditions, not just the headline rate.
The old resort’s weekend, school-holiday and festive-period rates could differ, and some offers required a minimum stay. Those examples are not confirmed reopening conditions.
If you have future Cherating dates in mind, we can help you follow the reopening news and review the actual offer when bookings become available. A planning enquiry is not a confirmed reservation.
Are There Any Discounts for Senior Citizens, Maids, or Guests with Physical Challenges?
Our earlier Cherating guide did not list dedicated discounts for senior citizens, domestic helpers or guests with disabilities. Future offers and eligibility will need to be checked against the actual booking terms.
Pre-renovation family pricing included reduced child and teen rates, with accommodation offers for children under four. Treat these as historical arrangements rather than a guarantee of free travel, free childcare or identical reopening prices.
Tell us about any access or care requirements when planning. The most useful comparison is the full package, room suitability and confirmed support available—not an assumed discount.
Will I Get a Better Price If I Book for a Bigger Group?
Not always. Club Med uses a dynamic pricing system, which means rates go up as rooms get booked. So if you’re booking for a big group and the cheaper room tiers have already sold out, the system will jump to the next available price, which could end up being more, not less.
Before renovation, Superior Garden and Superior Seaside rooms were in different parts of the resort. For a future group stay, check the new room layout and ask whether the room types you want can be located close together.
Our earlier guide used 20 guests as an example of a group-booking threshold. Group rates, name deadlines and payment conditions depend on the actual proposal, so that figure should not be treated as a confirmed reopening rule.
Group-booking eligibility, peak-date restrictions and Great Members points depend on the applicable terms. Ask for these in writing when comparing a group proposal with individual bookings.
Bigger groups do not automatically get cheaper deals. A useful quotation should show the total cost, room mix, included services and deadlines for your party.
What’s Included in the Club Med All-Inclusive Package?
Before closure, Cherating’s all-inclusive package brought the main holiday costs together. It did not mean every service was free: spa treatments, some childcare, excursions and premium selections could cost extra.
The following describes the former package, not a confirmed reopening list:
- Accommodation in the room type you’ve selected. Simple, comfortable, and surrounded by nature.
- Meals and selected snacks during the scheduled restaurant and service hours.
- Standard drinks: tea, coffee, soft drinks, mocktails and cocktails, alongside the included bar selection. Exact drinks and brands varied; premium or separately priced selections were extra.
- Snacks between meals, because sometimes you just need a little bite in between activities.
- A huge range of sports and activities, from flying trapeze and rock climbing to sailing, stand-up paddle, kayaking, yoga, archery, and even dance classes. You don’t have to do any of it, but availability depended on the programme, weather and participation requirements.
- Evening entertainment, with live music, themed nights, and performances that are surprisingly fun (and sometimes, a little unexpected, in a good way).
- Kids’ clubs for children aged 4 to 17, each with their own age-appropriate programme and trained staff, so the little ones have fun and parents get a break.
- Wi-Fi across the resort , so yes, you can post that sunrise selfie or keep up with work (if you really must).
That flexibility was a big part of the appeal: active days, quiet afternoons or a mix of both. For a future stay, compare the confirmed package inclusions and extras with the activities that matter most to you.

Which Restaurants Are Included at Club Med Cherating?
The former dining line-up included Mutiara, Rembulan and Enak. All are unavailable to guests during the renovation closure. These descriptions recall the earlier experience; the restaurant line-up, menus and hours after reopening have not been confirmed here.
- The Mutiara Restaurant
This was the main buffet-style restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a changing spread of familiar favourites and different cuisines.
- Rembulan Specialty Restaurant — historical dining experience
This quieter venue previously offered late lunch and reservation-based à la carte dinners when operating, with separately charged upgrades such as lobster. It is closed along with the whole resort; these are not current opening hours or reopening menu promises.
- Enak Restaurant
Enak previously served noodles and meals between the main buffet sittings, including late breakfast, late lunch and late dinner. It was a convenient option for guests on a different schedule.

Is there Halal Food in Club Med Cherating?
Our pre-renovation guide described halal food ingredients and preparation, while noting that the restaurants were not halal-certified and alcohol was served. For a future stay, ask for the current catering and certification information if this is important to you; do not treat the historical description as a new certification claim.
What’s Served for Late Breakfast?
Enak, beside Mutiara, previously served late breakfast from 9:45am to 10:45am. The following menu examples are a flavour of that earlier experience, not reopening hours or a guaranteed future menu:
Drinks:
- Fresh juices like orange or apple
- Hot drinks including coffee, hot chocolate, and a selection of teas
Something sweet:
- Cereals like corn flakes, muesli, or koko krunch
- A colourful plate of local sliced fruits
- Pancakes served with maple syrup
- Yogurt, either plain or with fruit
- Sliced wheat or white bread
Savory options:
- Chinese congee, served with shredded chicken and salted duck egg
- Classic Malaysian nasi lemak
- Omelets with a choice of tomato, onion, cheese, or ham, or scrambled eggs served alongside beef bacon or chicken sausage
- A plate of cheese and cold cuts, served with crackers
Available on request:
- Nutella, peanut butter, honey, or sugar-free jam
- Cold milk or soya milk
It was a handy option for a slower start, with a mix of lighter bites and familiar favourites.
Are there meal options for vegetarians or special diets?
Before closure, guests with dietary requests could discuss options with the chef. For future travel, confirm whether your specific needs can be accommodated before booking, especially for a food allergy. A buffet selection or an offer to help should not be treated as a guarantee that cross-contact can be avoided.
Is baby food available?
The former Mutiara Restaurant had a Baby Corner with food-preparation equipment such as a blender, bottle warmer and microwave. Parents should confirm the facilities, food available and opening hours for a future stay rather than assume the same setup will return.
What drinks are included at Club Med Cherating?
Standard tea, coffee, soft drinks, mocktails and cocktails formed part of the all-inclusive offering. The specific drinks and brands varied, and premium or separately priced selections cost extra. The examples below are from the pre-renovation menu, not a confirmed reopening drinks list.
Coffee choices included espresso, ristretto, americano, cappuccino, latte and mocha.
The tea selection included English Breakfast, Earl Grey, chamomile, jasmine, peppermint and ginger.
Cold options included iced lattes, iced tea, iced chocolate and bubble-tea examples such as Tropicana and Berry Me.
The earlier soft-drink selection included Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Fanta, soda water, tonic water and ginger ale.
Juice choices included orange, apple, pineapple, mango, lychee and cranberry, depending on the day.
The former bar menu also featured:
- Classic cocktails like Mojitos, Piña Coladas, or Margaritas
- Club Med signatures. Ask a GO to mix up their personal favourite
- Cherating specials like Firefly, Mangrove Bay, or Cherating Night
- Mocktails for the non-drinkers. Try the Turtle Rock or Sunset
- Milkshakes like Monkey Breakfast and Choco Loco if you’re craving something creamy
Beer, house wines and selected spirits were also part of the earlier offering. Brands listed in the old menu included Tiger, Heineken, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Bacardi, Captain Morgan and Jim Beam; none is a guaranteed reopening selection.
Aperitif and liqueur examples included Martini, Campari, crème de cassis and Amaretto.
Included drinks were generally served by the glass. Check any premium, bottled or otherwise chargeable selection before ordering when the resort reopens.

What types of rooms are available at Club Med Cherating?
Before renovation, the main room categories described in this guide were:
- Superior Room (Garden)
- Superior Room – Seaside
- Suite Seaside Terrace
Our earlier guide described Superior Garden and Superior Seaside rooms as 21 sqm, with twin beds that could be combined. Occupancy and sofa-bed arrangements depended on the exact category; the former descriptions should not be used to choose a future room without checking its new specifications.
The former rooms had separate shower and toilet areas, with a bathtub in the Suite category described here. These are pre-renovation features, not confirmed future bathroom layouts.
The photographs show the earlier rooms and their fittings, including televisions. See our Cherating rooms and suites guide for the historical room reference and reopening caveats.
For a future family stay, ask specifically about connecting rooms, their location, availability and any supplement before confirming the booking.
Baby equipment was available under the former Baby Welcome arrangements. Confirm each item you need, whether advance reservation is required and any charge for your actual stay; do not assume every item will be placed in every room.

Can we request a birthday cake or room decorations?
Before closure, we could request a birthday cake for guests celebrating during their stay, subject to the arrangements available at the time. For a future celebration, tell us the date so the resort can confirm what it will offer.
Room decorations and other celebration extras depended on the request and could involve a charge. Ask for availability and a quotation rather than relying on the old arrangements.
When was Club Med Cherating refurbished?
Our earlier guide referred to a July 2024 refresh. That is separate from the much larger renovation for which the resort closed on 10 October 2026. The expected reopening plans at the top of this page are provisional, and the final room and facility details may change.
The former resort’s wooden buildings, raised walkways and dark-wood interiors were a distinctive part of its character. These descriptions and photographs document that setting before the current transformation.
In our earlier stays, the rooms were a comfortable base for days spent around the beach, rainforest and activity areas. Future room choices should be based on the new specifications when those are confirmed.
What activities are available at Club Med Cherating?
The pre-renovation resort offered a broad choice of included sports and activities, alongside separately charged experiences. Nothing in this list is available during the closure or guaranteed to return unchanged.
Examples from the former programme included:
- Flying trapeze with circus school
- Archery
- Tennis
- Fitness classes (think dance, cardio, strength training)
- Sailing
- Rock climbing
- Guided jungle walks
- Aqua fitness
- Yoga and stretching sessions
- Basketball, futsal, and beach volleyball
- Table tennis, badminton, squash
- Bocce ball
- Kayaking and paddle boarding
- Cooking lessons
Equipment for the former included sports was supplied by the resort. Guests needed suitable shoes and clothing, and participation depended on age, ability, conditions and the activity’s requirements.
Group introductions to activities such as flying trapeze, sailing and archery were part of the former experience. Confirm the new activity programme before planning a stay around any one sport.

What can senior guests enjoy at Club Med Cherating?
For guests who preferred a slower pace, the former resort offered time in nature, sociable activities and quiet places to relax. These examples may help you decide what to ask about for a future stay; they are not a reopening programme.
Some pre-renovation guest favourites included:
- Leisurely nature walks through the jungle trails
- Aqua fitness, Zumba or yoga, choosing a session suited to the guest’s ability and mobility
- Quiet time at the Zen Pool (it’s adults-only and really peaceful)
- Dipping in the sea or just enjoying the ocean breeze on a beach lounger
- Light cardio or stretching at the gym
- A friendly game of bocce ball
- Cooking sessions with local ingredients and flavours
- Evening shows, music, and live entertainment
- Catching up over a game of mahjong with other guests
Separately charged experiences previously included:
- Spa treatments (charged separately)
- Batik painting workshops (also at extra cost)
- Optional excursions outside the resort, like river cruises or local tours
The appeal was being able to choose your own pace. For a future holiday, match the confirmed facilities and activities to your comfort, mobility and interests.
Is Club Med Cherating accessible for guests with disabilities?
Our earlier guide listed one adapted Superior Room and ramps in parts of the resort. The renovation may change the layout, so confirm the exact room, step-free routes, bathroom features and distances relevant to your needs before making a future booking. Do not rely on a general “accessible resort” label.
Can I do laundry at Club Med Cherating?
The former resort had self-service washers and dryers operated with tokens from Reception. Laundry facilities, hours and prices after reopening need to be confirmed.
Can I bring my pet to Club Med Cherating?
The pre-renovation resort did not accept pets. Confirm the policy and any relevant assistance-animal arrangements directly for a future stay.
Is spa included in the Club Med all-inclusive package?
Spa treatments at the former Sothys Spa were charged separately from the all-inclusive package.
The future spa operator, treatment menu, prices and reservation process have not been confirmed here. Do not use an old spa package as a current booking offer.
What is Club Med Kids Club?
Before renovation, Mini Club Med served children aged 4–10, with separate programmes for older children and teens. These were part of the former family offering; future clubs, ages and operating dates will need to be confirmed.
The earlier programmes mixed sport, nature, creative play and rehearsals for shows, with activities appropriate to the age group. Availability varied with the programme and conditions.
Baby Club Med for ages 4–23 months and Petit Club Med for ages 2–3 were separately charged services, subject to places. Their former availability is not a guarantee of the reopening offer.
What activities are available for toddlers aged 2 to 3 years?
Petit Club Med previously provided childcare for ages 2–3 at an extra cost, subject to availability. For a future stay, confirm the service, dates, hours, price and place for your child before booking.
The earlier programme included gentle games, creative activities, music, storytelling and rest time. The sample below shows how a day used to be organised, not a future timetable.

Does Club Med Cherating have a business centre?
Our earlier stays did not include a dedicated business centre. Wi-Fi was useful for everyday browsing, but we would not plan essential work around an assumed connection speed. Confirm the new facilities and make a backup connectivity plan if work is unavoidable.
Is there a dress code at Club Med Cherating?
Before closure, the atmosphere was relaxed during the day, with dry clothing expected in restaurants rather than wet swimwear.
Optional evening dress themes were part of the fun. Any future themes and restaurant requirements should be checked with the resort for your stay, not taken from an old daily programme.
How’s the mobile phone coverage at Club Med Cherating?
Our earlier experience was that mobile reception varied by telco and location, with CelcomDigi generally stronger and other networks less consistent in some areas. That is a historical observation, not a current coverage test.
Coverage and network technology can change. Check your provider’s current map and roaming or data arrangements before travel.
The former resort offered Wi-Fi, but performance varied. New Wi-Fi provision and speeds have not been tested during the closure.
Is there EV charging at Club Med Cherating?
Our pre-renovation guide did not list an on-site EV charger. The nearby EV charger location is retained as a planning reference; check current operation, connector compatibility and access before relying on it. Charging at the reopened resort has not been confirmed here.
Bonus Question: Why book Club Med with Travelution Holidays?
Because we don’t just sell Club Med. We live and breathe it.
We’re a top-tier Club Med Travel Agent in Malaysia with Platinum status. Officially registered with MOTAC, and proud to be Certified Club Med Specialists who’ve personally stayed at Club Med Cherating (more than once!).
We give real and honest advice to help you pick the right resort for you.
Need time to finalise your plans? Ask us whether a temporary room and price hold is available for the specific offer. The old “up to two days” arrangement was not a guarantee for every booking, and there are no Cherating stays to hold during the current closure.
The earlier 20% deposit and balance due 60 days before travel were booking terms quoted at the time, not a current or guaranteed reopening offer. The deposit, payment deadline, change and cancellation conditions must come from the quotation for your actual booking.
Wondering whether to wait for Cherating’s return or choose an operating resort for your next holiday?
