Club Med Kiroro Grand Frequently Asked Questions
What is the nearest airport, and how long is the transfer to the resort?
You will fly into New Chitose Airport (CTS) in Sapporo. The drive to the resort takes approximately 2 hours via the Club Med shared shuttle bus or private transfers.
- Flight Time Warning: Club Med’s collective shuttle schedules generally cover flights arriving at Chitose before 18:30 PM and departing after 11:00 AM. If your flights fall outside these times (for example, the early morning AirAsia flight back to Kuala Lumpur), don’t worry, just let us know and we can arrange a private vehicle transfer for you instead!
What are the official check-in and check-out times?
- Check-in: Your room will be ready starting at 15:00 PM.
- Check-out: Room keys must be returned by 10:00 AM.
- Maximizing your last day: If your airport shuttle leaves later in the afternoon, you can securely store your luggage in the resort’s holding room. You are fully welcome to keep enjoying the open bars, restaurants, and facilities until your departure bus arrives.
What is the difference between Kiroro Grand and Kiroro Peak?
They are sister resorts located just a 3-minute shuttle or gondola ride apart, but they target entirely different travelers:
- Club Med Kiroro Grand: Family-centric, welcoming guests of all ages. It houses all of the dedicated kids’ clubs, large family suites, multi-generational activities, and the main buffet restaurant.
- Club Med Kiroro Peak: An intimate, tranquil sanctuary restricted to adults and teenagers aged 12 and above, ideal for couples and solo powder purists.
Does the resort have an Onsen, and what is the etiquette?
Yes. Kiroro Grand features a traditional Japanese Ofuro (hot spring bath), outdoor Rotenburo, and a sauna that is completely free for staying guests.
- The Rules: In accordance with traditional Japanese culture, you must disrobe completely (no swimwear allowed), wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the water, and keep all mobile phones/cameras out of the facility.
- Tattoo Policy: Tattoos must be completely covered using waterproof patches while utilizing the public Onsen.
Are there laundry facilities on-site?
Yes, the resort features self-service laundry rooms located on the 4th and 8th floors.
- The Setup: The washers and dryers are strictly coin-operated, so it is highly recommended to prepare and save ¥100 coins for your loads.
- The Cost: A standard wash cycle costs ¥300, and the dryer is priced at ¥100 per 30 minutes.
What medical services are available if someone gets sick or injured?
Please note that there is no medical clinic or doctor on-site at the resort.
For basic first aid, the resort can assist with minor bandages, but if you require a doctor or face a medical emergency, you will need to go to a hospital. The resort’s Reception team is fully trained to handle these situations and will immediately assist in making arrangements and coordinating transport to the nearest hospital.
- Travelution Tip: Because medical care and hospital transfers in Japan are exceptionally costly for foreigners, comprehensive travel insurance that covers alpine winter sports is a complete must. If you do need to go to the hospital, we strongly advise contacting your travel insurance provider immediately before you arrive at the hospital. Most insurance companies require you to activate a claim or obtain pre-authorization first so they can coordinate directly with the Japanese hospital for cashless payment or smooth reimbursement.
Is Halal food available at Club Med Kiroro Grand?
The kitchens and restaurants at Club Med Kiroro Grand are not Halal-certified. Because the resort serves an international guest base, pork and alcohol are widely prepared and openly served throughout the main buffet and specialty dining venues.
However, Muslim guests can easily navigate the dining options using these alternatives:
- Seafood & Vegetarian Options: The main buffet restaurant, Yoichi, serves an extensive rotation of fresh Hokkaido seafood, including fresh sushi, sashimi, and crab legs. There are also plenty of standalone vegetarian selections.
- Table-Side Cooking Control: You can book a table at the resort’s hot pot buffet restaurant, The Ogon, or the specialty Yakiniku restaurant, The Kaen*. These venues feature tables with built-in grills or hot pots, allowing you to select seafood, or vegetable platters and cook them at your own table, entirely minimizing cross-contamination with pork.
- Custom Dietary Requests: Upon arrival, you can speak directly with the Restaurant Manager or Head Chef. The international culinary team is highly accommodating and can frequently arrange for pork-free and alcohol-free dishes to be specially prepared for you.
- Tip: Because Japanese cuisine heavily relies on cooking sake and mirin (sweet rice wine) for broths, sauces, and ramen soups, always check with the station chefs before serving yourself from the main buffet.
