Why Choose Club Med Tomamu?

When planning a winter holiday in Hokkaido, choosing the right resort comes down to finding the perfect balance between the quality of the snow and the variety of experiences off the mountain. Club Med Tomamu stands out as a premier destination because it completely eliminates the compromises of a traditional ski vacation.

All-Inclusive Value & Peace of Mind

Club Med’s premium all-inclusive model completely removes the financial stress of vacation planning.

Your single upfront rate covers unlimited gourmet dining across multiple restaurants, open bars serving free-flowing drinks, full mountain lift passes and group lessons (winter), guided trekking and mountain sports (summer), and nightly live entertainment. When it is time to check out, you get to experience the ultimate vacation luxury: no surprise bills.

Ultimate "Ski + Non-Ski" Balance

At most winter resorts, if you don’t ski or snowboard, your daytime options are often limited to sitting in a cafe or waiting in the hotel lounge. Tomamu completely changes that dynamic.

By pairing world-class mountain slopes with massive, headline attractions like Mina Mina Beach (Japan’s largest indoor wave pool) and the magical sub-zero Ice Village*, non-skiers have just as much to look forward to as seasoned powder shredders. It is the perfect destination for multi-generational families or groups where everyone travels at a different pace.

Access to Hokkaido's "Powder Belt"

Tomamu is located in central Hokkaido, an inland geographic zone known globally as the Hokkaido Powder Belt.

Because the resort sits further away from the coast than coastal destinations like Niseko, the moisture content in the air drops significantly by the time storms hit the central peaks. This geographical positioning results in an incredibly dry, ultra-light “aspirin snow” that rarely packs down into heavy ice. If you want to experience effortless, floating glides through pristine snow, Tomamu’s 29 runs deliver exactly that.

Sleek, Contemporary Flagship Design

If you prefer modern, visually vibrant aesthetics over rustic wooden ski lodges, Tomamu is unmatched. Designed by renowned French architect Jean-Philippe Nuel, the resort features a bold, stylish fusion of contemporary urban design and local Japanese nature motifs. From the cozy, wood-grain warmth surrounding the central fireplace at the Unkai Bar to the colorful, spacious family suites, the resort feels premium, fresh, and distinctly upscale.

Accommodation: Choosing Your Perfect Room

The design of the rooms at Club Med Tomamu completely breaks away from old-school, rustic ski chalets. Conceived by prominent French architect Jean-Philippe Nuel, the interiors are a masterclass in modern alpine style. They pair clean urban lines with vibrant color palettes inspired by Hokkaido’s natural seasons, deep forest greens, rich plum tones, and warm mustard accents.

Dining and Bars at Club Med Tomamu

Hokkaido is legendary among food lovers for having some of the freshest seafood, richest dairy, and most exceptional agricultural produce in the world. At Club Med Tomamu, this incredible culinary heritage is brought directly to your plate.

Itara Restaurant

Itara is the high-energy heart of the resort’s culinary experience. Rather than a singular massive dining hall, this sprawling international buffet is cleverly broken into four beautifully distinct dining rooms, each meticulously themed after a different Hokkaido season.

  • The Food: The live-cooking stations are a theater of flavor. You can jump from fresh, locally sourced sashimi and hand-rolled sushi to authentic bowls of steaming Hokkaido miso ramen, premium French pastries, and freshly grilled-to-order meats.

  • Family-Friendly Design: Itara features a dedicated Baby Corner equipped with baby food jars, a microwave, a bottle warmer, and high chairs, making family meal management completely effortless.

  • Dietary Needs: A dedicated vegetarian corner and options catering to various dietary requirements are available.

  • Operating Hours
    • Breakfast: 07:00 – 09:30.
    • Lunch: 12:15 – 14:00.
    • Dinner: 18:15 – 21:00.

Haku Restaurant

Haku brings the best of authentic Japanese food culture directly into the resort. Styled with a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, this intimate venue serves two completely distinct dining experiences depending on the time of day:

  • The Late Lunch (A la Carte): Perfect for skiers who want to stay on the slopes a bit longer, Haku offers a relaxed, delicious late-afternoon lunch menu featuring comfort classics like steaming ramen bowls and savory donburi (Japanese rice bowls). No reservations are required for lunch.

  • The Dinner (Table-side Yakiniku): In the evening, the space transforms into an interactive Japanese Yakiniku barbecue experience. Guests sit around specialized tables with built-in, smokeless grills to flame-sear prime cuts of tender beef, marbled meats, fresh local seafood, and seasonal vegetables.

  • The Tasting Basket Setup: To ensure the highest quality table experience, your booking includes one signature tasting basket per four guests (or per booking for smaller groups).

  • The Refill Policy: You can enjoy unlimited, free-flow refills on regional vegetables, soups, pork sausages and desserts. However, please note that ordering additional portions of meats or seafood items outside tasting basket will incur an extra charge.

  • How to Book Dinner: While dinner here is fully included in your package, seating is intimate and highly requested. Unlike the walk-in lunch service, you will need to secure a dinner table reservation at the resort reception desk upon your arrival.

  • Operating Hours
    • Late Lunch: 14:00 – 15:00.
    • Dinner: 18:05 – 20:30.

Unkai Bar

Located right in the center of the resort’s vibrant common area, Unkai Bar is where everyone converges to share stories after a long day carving down the mountain.

  • The Vibe: Centered around a stunning, modern circular fireplace, the bar features floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the snow.

  • The Menu: Free-flowing draft beers, house wines, standard spirits, signature winter cocktails, mocktails, hot chocolates, and premium coffees are served all day long. In the late afternoon, it hosts a delightful spread of savory snacks, finger foods, and sweet pastries for the ultimate post-ski revival.

The Nest Bar

For adults looking to escape the high-energy pulse of the main resort areas, The Nest offers a sleek, ultra-quiet sanctuary.

  • The Vibe: A sophisticated, intimate lounge dedicated to deep relaxation and slow sipping.

  • The Menu (On-Demand / Extra Charge): The Nest specializes in premium curated tasting flights. Here, you can sample legendary, rare Japanese whiskeys (like Nikka and Yamazaki) alongside boutique local sakes and artisan spirits guided by an expert bartender.

Dietary & Drinks Notices

As a premier alpine resort, Club Med Tomamu welcomes a diverse mix of local and international travelers, striving to accommodate a wide variety of dietary needs and food sensitivities. Because the culinary program features expansive, globally inspired menus across both Itara and Haku, here are a few practical tips to help you navigate the dining halls smoothly:

  • Pork and Alcohol Inclusions: Please note that pork is served alongside standard international dishes in the restaurant. Alcoholic beverages are also served throughout the venue.

  • Free-Flow Drinks: Your all-inclusive package covers an extensive selection of beers, wines, spirits, and custom cocktails at bars and resort restaurants. Premium alcohol brands, elite liquors, and select boutique wines are excluded and remain available at an additional cost.

  • Drink Responsibly: While drinks flow freely, Club Med promotes a safe, high-quality social environment and encourages all guests to drink responsibly for their own safety.

  • Strictly No Alcohol to Minors: In full compliance with Japanese law, alcohol service is strictly restricted to guests aged 20 and older. Minors will not be served alcoholic beverages under any circumstances.

  • Speaking with the Culinary Team: Guests with strict dietary restrictions, religious requirements, food allergies, or celiac disease are strongly advised to speak directly with the Head Chef or the Restaurant Manager upon arrival. The team can walk you through the daily buffet selections to identify safe options, point out specific ingredients, or discuss bespoke meal preparations where possible to help prevent cross-contamination.

Kids and Family at Club Med Tomamu

Club Med Tomamu is the ultimate multi-generational mountain sanctuary, specifically designed to give families a seamless, stress-free vacation. The resort combines Hokkaido’s magical natural environment with world-class, supervised kids’ clubs that infuse nature exploration, winter ski progression, and summer outdoor adventures into your children’s stay.

Baby Welcome

For families traveling with infants, the Club Med Baby Welcome program is a signature service designed to ensure a stress-free and seamless vacation experience from the moment you arrive. This complimentary service, available for babies aged 4 months to under 2 years, provides essential childcare equipment directly in your room, allowing you to travel lighter without sacrificing comfort.

What’s Included in Baby Welcome?

To make your stay as convenient as possible, the following items are provided upon request (subject to availability):

  • In-Room Essentials: A baby cot, changing mat, and baby bath.

  • Feeding Support: A bottle warmer and basic sterilization equipment.

  • Mobility: A stroller is available for navigating the resort’s grounds.

Dining for Little Ones

Club Med Cherating goes beyond in-room gear to support your baby’s nutritional needs:

  • Baby Corner: Located within the main buffet restaurant, this dedicated area provides savory and sweet baby foods, along with the equipment (blenders, microwaves) needed to seamlessly prepare your child’s meals.

  • Baby Food: A selection of jars and fresh ingredients are available to ensure healthy, balanced meals throughout the day.

Travelution Specialist Insight:

“The Baby Welcome service is an absolute game-changer for parents heading to the snow or summer mountains. Not having to pack a bulky stroller or bottle warmer means vastly lighter luggage, an absolute blessing when navigating winter airports. Travelution Tip: While the Baby Welcome gear is complimentary, it is strictly subject to resort availability, so please let us know the moment you book so we can lock these essentials in for your room!”

Baby Club Med *

Not available at this resort.

Petit Club Med *

For toddlers aged 2 to 3 years old, the Petit Club Med at Club Med Tomamu offers a vibrant, specially designed environment where they can explore, learn, and socialize under the supervision of expert G.Os. Unlike the clubs for older children, the Petit Club provides a more intimate and tailored experience that balances active mountain play with necessary moments of rest.

Activities & Development

The Petit Club program is built around the “Positive Education” philosophy, focusing on early learning, sensory discovery, and alpine confidence.

  • Snow & Nature Exploration: In winter, toddlers get their very first gentle introduction to snow play, snowball throwing, and safe sledding. In summer, the program shifts to guided nature walks through lush, fresh mountain trails.

  • Creative Exploration: Indoors, toddlers participate in interactive arts and crafts, puppet shows, storytelling, and educational games designed to spark curiosity.

  • Early Sports: Children can burn off energy in a safe, soft-play setting with age-appropriate physical activities like Baby Gym, obstacle courses, and musical dance games.

  • Show Time: Toddlers even get their own moments in the spotlight, participating in adorable mini-shows and family evening entertainment on the main stage.

Dining & Comfort
  • Tailored Meals: Children dine with their G.O hosts in a dedicated, supervised area of the restaurant featuring menus created specifically for younger palates, ensuring balanced nutrition after an active morning.

  • Napping Areas: To accommodate a toddler’s natural rhythm, the Petit Club includes cozy, quiet, and temperature-controlled dedicated nap rooms for daily rest periods.

  • Additional Cost: Unlike the clubs for children aged 4 and above, Petit Club Med is not included in the standard all-inclusive package and requires an additional daily fee.

Travelution Specialist Insight:

“The Petit Club is fantastic for giving toddlers their first taste of independence while parents enjoy hitting the advanced ski slopes or relaxing in the wellness spa. Because this service has very strict child-to-staff capacity limits and is in incredibly high demand, we strongly recommend booking the Petit Club at the same time as your room. Waiting until you arrive at the resort usually means missing out!”

Mini Club Med

Designed for children aged 4 to 10 years old, the Mini Club Med + at Club Med Tomamu is an adventurous alpine haven where kids can create lasting memories while parents enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. Fully included in your premium all-inclusive package, this club is divided into age-specific groups (4–5 years, 6–7 years, and 8–10 years) to ensure that every child engages in activities perfectly suited to their development and skill level.

A World of Discovery and Adventure

The Mini Club Med + program is built on a philosophy of fostering cooperation, courage, and creativity through positive education, offering a diverse schedule that completely pivots depending on the season:

  • The Winter Slopes (Kids’ Ski School): The absolute highlight of the winter season. Children are smoothly guided into their gear by G.Os and hit the snow for daily, professionally coached ski or snowboard lessons tailored to their skill level. They will learn to carve safely on Tomamu’s famous light powder, culminating in an exciting end-of-week medal ceremony.

  • The Summer Peaks (Green Season Sports): During the sunny summer months, the action shifts into the vibrant forest and open air. Kids can scale new heights on the flying trapeze, learn precision and focus at the archery range, try tennis, or head out on guided mountain treks across the sweeping green peaks.

  • Creative Arts & Nature Exploration: Children participate in interactive workshops, artistic crafts, and guided eco-walks to learn about central Hokkaido’s fascinating mountain ecosystems and local wildlife.

  • Evening Performances: A core highlight for many is the Mini Club Show. Children take to the resort’s main theater stage to perform fully costumed dance or talent routines for their families as part of the nightly entertainment.

Dining and Socializing
  • Lunch with G.O.s: Children have the option to dine with their new friends and instructors at a dedicated, fun-filled table within the Itara restaurant, turning mealtime into a lively social event while parents enjoy a quiet meal.

  • Themed Days: From giant snow-castle building competitions in the winter to high-energy mountain treasure hunts in the summer, the club fosters a deep sense of community and international teamwork.

Practical Information
  • Operating Hours: The Mini Club runs from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and again from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM for evening activities.

  • All-Inclusive: This service is fully included in your stay, allowing children to come and go as they please (with parental sign-in/out).

Travelution Specialist Insight:

“The Mini Club Med + is where the real ‘Club Med Spirit’ shines. It’s not just childcare; it’s an immersive, confidence-building mountain camp. Travelution Tip: Make sure your kids don’t miss the morning drop-off sessions, especially in winter, as that is when the core ski school groups set off for the mountain. Also, encourage them to join the evening show rehearsals, watching your child proudly perform on the big resort stage is often the absolute highlight of the entire holiday!”

Teens Club and Chill Pass

At Club Med Tomamu, teenagers are given their own dedicated space to socialize and explore through specialized programming designed for older kids. These seasonal offerings ensure that young adults have the freedom to experience central Hokkaido’s spectacular alpine paradise at their own pace, with just the right balance of structure and independence.
Club Med Teens (Ages 11–13)
This program is designed for younger teenagers who are looking for high-energy mountain adventures and easy social connections with peers their own age.
  • Focus: Socializing through shared interests, dynamic team-building, and high-energy group activities.

  • Winter Slopes: Teenagers hit the mountain together in supervised ski or snowboarding groups, carving through Tomamu’s famous light powder with peers of a similar skill level.

  • Summer Peaks: The action moves to high-altitude outdoor sports, featuring mountain biking treks, dynamic team challenges, and spirited tournaments at the sports courts.

  • Evening: Participants hang out together for early dinner socials at Itara and often prepare for a dedicated teen performance on the resort’s main stage.

Club Med Chill Pass (Ages 14–17)
The Chill Pass is specifically imagined for older teens to encourage independence, screen-free interaction, and a more relaxed, “no obligations” holiday vibe.
  • Focus: A laid-back, autonomy-first approach that allows older teens to completely escape the feeling of a traditional, structured kids’ club.

  • Lounge Spaces: Teens gain access to dedicated hangout zones within the resort where they can listen to music, play pool or table tennis, play cards, or just relax with new friends from around the world.

  • Tailored Adventures: Activities are completely geared toward their desire for independence. In winter, they can form independent riding groups to conquer the peaks, while summer brings flying trapeze workshops, competitive beach volleyball matches at Mina Mina Beach, or casual archery matches.

  • Nightlife: Special evening events designed just for them, including private mocktail socials at Unkai Bar, stargazing over the crisp mountain ridges, or late-night music and dance hangouts.

  • Availability: These teen programs operate strictly during peak school holiday periods when families with teenagers are most frequent at the resort.

Travelution Specialist Insight:“The split between ‘Teens’ and ‘Chill Pass’ at Tomamu is a brilliant move because a 17-year-old and an 11-year-old have vastly different ideas of a great holiday. While the 11–13s thrive on the high-energy group games and guided slope sessions, the older 14–17s really value the Chill Pass’s exclusive lounge areas. It gives them a safe space to just ‘be’ and make vacation friends naturally—plus, they love crossing over to Mina Mina Beach for group pool hangouts!”

Amazing Family!

The Club Med Amazing Family! program at Kiroro Grand is an award-winning initiative designed to bring parents and children together through a weekly agenda of shared activities. Included in your premium all-inclusive package, the program encourages families to “ditch the screens” and reconnect in Hokkaido’s breathtaking alpine setting through five distinct pillars of play.

The Five Pillars of Amazing Family
  • Time to Move: Energizing group games tailored to the stunning mountain landscape, such as multi-generational obstacle courses, lawn games, and spirited family snowball tournaments.

  • Time to Play: Large-scale collaborative fun inside the cozy resort or out on the lawns, featuring life-sized versions of classics like Giant Jenga, massive Twister mats, Mölkky, and Connect 5.

  • Time to Care: Meaningful nature-based activities and mindfulness, including Family Yoga overlooking the peaks, eco-conscious workshops, and learning about Hokkaido’s unique local flora, fauna, and environmental sustainability.

  • Time to Quest: Interactive resort-wide treasure hunts. Families work as a unit to decode clues, solve riddles, and complete fun physical challenges hosted by the G.Os to discover the mountain heritage.

  • Time to Celebrate: Joyful communal moments to wind down an active day, such as high-energy afternoon parties hosted by the entertainment team featuring music, dancing, themed Bubble or Color Parties, and the beloved Family “Big Snack” afternoon tea time.

Why It’s Unique

Unlike traditional kids’ clubs where children play separately while adults relax, the Amazing Family program is specifically curated for intergenerational bonding. It provides a dedicated space where grandparents, parents, and children can share the exact same experiences, ensuring that you return home with a much deeper connection to each other

Travelution Specialist Insight:

“Amazing Family is the perfect antidote to ‘parallel vacationing’ in the mountains. Instead of parents hitting the advanced slopes and kids staying in the clubs all day, you are coming together in the afternoon to build a giant Jenga tower or solve a resort-wide mystery. It transforms Kiroro Grand from a place where your kids are safely cared for into a magnificent playground where you actually play together.”

One Spectacular Resort, Two Distinct Worlds

The magic of Club Med Tomamu lies in its extraordinary seasonal transformation. You can dive deep into either specific travel window depending on your family’s travel goals:

The Winter Season
(December – March)

  • The Vibe: A vibrant, high-energy winter wonderland.

  • The Secret: Located deep within the inland Hokkaido Powder Belt, Tomamu receives an average of 8 to 9 meters of ultra-light, dry “aspirin powder” each season. Because it sits further from the coast, the snow carries significantly less moisture, resulting in effortless, floating glides across 29 diverse ski runs.

  • Included Highlights: Lift passes, English-guided group ski and snowboard lessons, easy access to the mountain, and entry to Mina Mina Beach (Japan’s largest indoor wave pool).

The Summer Season
(May – October)

  • The Vibe: A refreshing, high-energy mountain escape and outdoor adventure sanctuary.

  • The Secret: While the rest of Asia swelters in humid heat, Tomamu’s inland highlands hover at a crisp, blissful 20°C to 25°C with cool mountain breezes. This makes it the ultimate destination for active families who want to escape the summer humidity and explore nature comfortably.

  • Included Highlights: Guided alpine mountain trekking, high-flying flying trapeze workshops, specialized archery classes, tennis, mountain biking trails, and unlimited entry to the massive indoor wave pool at Mina Mina Beach.

Club Med Tomamu Frequently Asked Questions

To help you seamlessly prepare for your alpine getaway, we have compiled the most critical questions our clients ask before heading to the breathtaking highlands of central Hokkaido.

What is the best way to travel to Club Med Tomamu?

Most travelers fly into New Chitose Airport (CTS) in Sapporo. From the airport, the most convenient option is the dedicated Club Med coach transfer, which takes approximately 120 minutes depending on road conditions.

Alternatively, you can take the JR Express train directly to Tomamu Station, where a complimentary resort shuttle bus waits to transfer you to the resort (a short 5-minute drive).

What are the official check-in and check-out times?

  • Check-in: Your room will be ready starting at 15:00 PM.

  • Check-out: Room keys must be returned by 10:00 AM.

  • Maximizing your last day: If your airport shuttle leaves later in the afternoon, you can securely store your luggage in the resort’s holding room. You are fully welcome to keep enjoying the open bars, restaurants, and facilities until your departure bus arrives.

Are there laundry facilities on-site?

Yes! This is incredibly convenient for drying out under-layers or packing light. The resort features self-service, coin-operated washing machines and dryers.

What medical services are available if someone gets sick or injured?

Please note that there is no medical clinic or doctor on-site at the resort.

For basic first aid, the resort can assist with minor bandages, but if you require a doctor or face a medical emergency, you will need to go to a hospital. The resort’s Reception team is fully trained to handle these situations and will immediately assist in making arrangements and coordinating transport to the nearest hospital.

  • Travelution Tip: Because medical care and hospital transfers in Japan are exceptionally costly for foreigners, comprehensive travel insurance that covers alpine winter sports is a complete must. If you do need to go to the hospital, we strongly advise contacting your travel insurance provider immediately before you arrive at the hospital. Most insurance companies require you to activate a claim or obtain pre-authorization first so they can coordinate directly with the Japanese hospital for cashless payment or smooth reimbursement.

Are reservations required for the specialty restaurant, Haku?

It depends on the time of day. For Late Lunch, Haku operates on a walk-in, a la carte basis with no reservations needed, perfect for a relaxed bowl of ramen after a long morning session.

For the evening Yakiniku barbecue dinner, reservations are strictly mandatory and highly sought after. You can secure your dinner table at the resort reception desk upon check-in.
