Club Med Tomamu Summer Activities

Club Med Tomamu Summer activities are not as extensive as other resorts in Asia. Activities available include mountain biking, walking / hiking, flying trapeze, archery, tennis, and fitness classes.

Mountain biking is one of the must do activities in Club Med Tomamu. There are two levels of mountain biking activity – intermediate and advanced.

I missed the intermediate session in the morning, so I went for the advance session in the afternoon. The cycling path was scenic. It goes downhill through a rocky track, passing the tennis court, golf course before reaching the rest point. The final part of the activity was the toughest, we had to cycle uphill back to Club Med Tomamu, which made most participants out of breath. Cycling was pleasant in Tomamu due to the cool mountain weather.

Indoor Wave Pool

The Mina-Mina Beach is the largest indoor wave pool in Japan and is conveniently located just opposite the entrance of Club Med Tomamu. The pool is operated by Hoshino Resorts and requires an entrance fee. However, there is great news for Club Med guests! They can enjoy free access to The Mina-Mina Beach by simply presenting their locker card at the entrance.

To use the lockers for the wave pool, you can find them below the entrance. Choose an available locker and insert your locker card for usage. It’s important to note that guests with tattoos must cover them before entering Mina-Mina Beach. Bandages are available for purchase at the Towel counter.

In addition to the impressive wave pool, there is also a gender-separated Onsen (hot spring) located on the right side of the building. When entering the Onsen, remove your footwear and place them in the shoe rack.

Next, remove all your clothes and store them in the locker. Just like when you entered this world, you will need to enter the Onsen without any clothing.

Before enjoying the outdoor hot spring, sauna, steam bath, and indoor cold tub for your relaxation and enjoyment, it is necessary to clean yourself by taking a shower.

Unkai Terrace – Sea of Clouds

Club Med Tomamu is located next to the cable car to the Unkai Terrace. Experience the mesmerising natural phenomenon of clouds rising over the mountains, which is also known as the “Sea of Clouds”. There is a small cafe at the Unkai Terrace, where you can enjoy a hot drink while admiring the amazing views.

The Unkai is subject to weather conditions. It is highly recommended checking the Unkai forecast official website if the cable car is operating and if the Unkai is occurring.

The cable car costs 1900-yen (MYR 56) for adults and 1200-yen (MYR 35) for children. Tickets can be purchased from the Club Med Tomamu reception. Should you be unable to use the cable car, return the tickets in good condition for a refund.

My first try to see the Unkai failed as it was closed due to rain. My second try was a success. I had to wake up at 4am and start queuing at 4.30am. The queue gets long when it’s almost 5am.

The cable car operates from 4.30am or 5am till 7am or 8am, depending on season. Best to go as early as possible as it gets warm and crowded in the later hours.

Bear Mountain

The Bear Mountain is located next to Club Med Sahoro. Travel time is approx. 35 minutes from Club Med Tomamu. The 15-hectare facility allows visitors to observe the brown bear in its natural surroundings.

The tour includes a ride in a bus-like vehicle that brings you around to see the brown bears roaming in the park. The ride ends at a glass observatory that lets you be right next to a brown bear.

This excursion includes a stop at Kuttari Onsen. The onsen has separate sections for male and female with indoor and outdoor area. Similar to other onsen, you need to be fully naked when using the facilities.

This activity is a half-day excursion. The cost is 2200-yen (MYR 64) per adult and 1650-yen (MYR 48) per child (7-12 years).
