Japan Airlines has an interesting offer for visitors to Japan. Travellers with an international ticket can purchase cheap domestic tickets called the JAL Japan Explorer Pass.
Prices for domestic tickets are usually quite low depending on the destination. This offer makes it more attractive to fly than using Japan’s convenient railway system.
Some airports in Japan are located far from the city center, therefore it makes more sense to travel by rail. However, train tickets like the Nozomi Super Express are expensive and not included in the Japan Rail Pass option, as such flying can be an alternative.
Booking JAL Japan Explorer Pass
The JAL Japan Explorer Pass is only applicable to individuals residing outside Japan with a return international ticket. Reservations and the purchase of the JAL Japan Explorer Pass must be made online on the Japan Airlines website. A map is published to show the different routes and prices according to distance. The prices are very reasonable as they are fixed but capacity controlled.

The JAL Japan Explorer Pass is available at a special fare for any applicable route within Japan at 3 price points.

The JAL Japan Explorer Pass will be sold in the currency of the country of sale, based on the current Japan Yen (JPY) exchange rate. If you are purchasing the pass from Malaysia, the price will be converted to Malaysia Ringgit (MYR). Additional airport taxes and fuel surcharge may apply. Passenger Facility Charge will be added to fares for flights to/from Tokyo (Haneda/Narita), Osaka(Itami/Kansai), Sapporo (New Chitose), Nagoya (Chubu), Sendai, Fukuoka, Naha and Kitakyushu Airports.

Searching for flight availability is easy. One-way fare from Tokyo to Osaka for travel 18 January 2023 is MYR 327 inclusive of airport taxes. Prices are subject to change due to currency fluctuation.
After selecting your preferred flight timing, the traveler’s personal details needs to be entered together with the international flight ticket number for verification.
The JAL Japan Explorer Pass is valid for travel in Economy Class. Travellers can upgrade to Business or First Class using the JAL Airport Upgrade at the standby check-in counter, subject to seat availability.
Free Wi-Fi Included
Japan Airlines offers free internet access on their Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft across Japan. For Nagoya (Chubu) – Okinawa (Naha), Okinawa (Naha) – Miyako / Ishigaki routes, inflight internet access is available on selected flights only. Travellers may check the latest departure and arrival information starting one day prior to departure for the Wi-Fi availability on the flight.
